A Good Sign My Ass...

JUST when I was beginning to think that things cannot get any worse...

A Good Sign?

It was drizzling on my way home from work yesterday. And then I saw a rainbow and snapped a picture of it.

A Double Rainbow
Hope this is a good sign that things are starting to get better.

I didn't notice the second rainbow until I looked at this picture. Then I started to wonder how a second rainbow appears. So I googled it up and found this webpage about rainbows.

Below is an extract from the webpage:

What makes a double rainbow?

Sometimes we see two rainbows at once, what causes this? We have followed the path of a ray of sunlight as it enters and is reflected inside the raindrop. But not all of the energy of the ray escapes the raindrop after it is reflected once. A part of the ray is reflected again and travels along inside the drop to emerge from the drop. The rainbow we normally see is called the primary rainbow and is produced by one internal reflection; the secondary rainbow arises from two internal reflections and the rays exit the drop at an angle of 50 degrees° rather than the 42°degrees for the red primary bow. Blue light emerges at an even larger angle of 53 degrees°. his effect produces a secondary rainbow that has its colors reversed compared to the primary, as illustrated in the
drawing, adapted from the Science Universe Series Sight, Light, and Color.

It is possible for light to be reflected more than twice within a raindrop, and one can calculate where the higher order rainbows might be seen; but these are never seen in normal circumstances.

There are other interesting stuff in the webpage like "What makes the bow?" and "Why is the sky brighter inside a rainbow?" (I've never even noticed this detail until I saw this webpage).
Also, try googling for images of rainbows and double rainbows. There are some really beautiful images that makes you wonder if they are even real!

Speaking of which, have you ever wished you could witness a majestic, beautiful, and surreal-looking scenery at least once in your lifetime? Like an aurora, or a really, really beautiful sunset? I should jot this down in my List-of-Things-to-do-before-I-Die...

Another Horrible Week Ahead...OMG!

Yeah, I'm freakin' out. But I wear a mask to work everyday. So nobody knows how freaked out I really am.

God, if you're there, please please don't let anything too nasty happen. If it does happen (pray to God it doesn't!), please let me have the strength to face it!

I know, I have no religion. But that doesn't mean I don't believe in God. So I can still pray, right?

Third Trip to Pulau Ubin

So I went to Pulau Ubin today. I am now tomato-red from sunburn. But the trip was fun and relaxing, although tiring (got bloody lost in the tracks >.<). Like before, we cycled around and my crotch now hurts whenever I sit down, no thanks to the bicycle butt rest. LOL! Too much information, sorry.

There was this really cute kitten, though, which reminded me so much of Gucci. And she was really friendly! After playing with her for a while, she started following me around, so much so I had to carry her further into the compounds of her home before quickly running back to my bicycle and speed off.

Thanks, Friend #1, for helping me release some of my work stress and frustration from last night (gosh, I was pretty pissed off there!).

kaioucat is now OK again.

Is That Too Much to Ask For?

Warning: kaioucat is currently not in a good condition.

I know guys are more "cool" and do not tend to express much in friendships.

But ALL I'm asking for is a group of friends whom I can hang out with to brighten my day a little after a week of horrible days at work, friends who show at least a little bit of concern on my well-being, friends who show at least a little bit of appreciation to our friendship. Is that so much to ask for?

I am already numbing myself, over the years, to expect the least from them. Why is it that every time, somehow, they just manage to do something to stretch my patience further?

The funny thing is, they probably don't even know they're doing this to me. Oh, they have no freakin' idea how much hell I went through because of them for the past 5.5 years.

Question is, why am I still hanging out with them? Could be either one of the following:
  • Because I don't have anyone else here, or
  • Because I don't have the courage to meet new people, or
  • Because I have grown to love them.
Whatever it is, I need a break.

Sorry for the emo post.

A Typical Attempt to Organise an Outing

SMS correspondence between my "friends" and I on Tuesday morning:

kaioucat: I need a get-away. Who's up for Pulau Upin this weekend?

Replies:

Friend #1: Can. Pengerang or?

Friend #2: Tmr my company will isolate me in Jurong Island from the world for 3 days! I need a "get-return" in weekend!

kaioucat to Friend #1: Anything.

Friend #1: Okay. Ubin ba

Friend #3: Omg ubin pokai sob (long story)

Friend #4: When are we going? Sat or Sun?

kaioucat to Friend #4: Prefer Sat.

Friend #3: Ubin ngo mmm hoi lo. Ho mong ah ni pai. (Translation: I'm not going lo. Very busy ah this time)

Friend #5: Me cant. Got badminton.

kaioucat to Friend #1: Pulau Ubin not laku.

Friend #1: Haha. Then what you wanna do to get away?

kaioucat to Friend #1: Dunno. Maybe go alone.

Friend #1: I can go if you want.

Score 1 out of 5. Not too bad already, considering the outing always end up canceled in the end.

Some "friends" I have, innit?

Happy Valentine's Day 2009!

Valentine's Day is the day couples have the rights to PDA (that's Public Display of Affection, not Personal Digital Assistant, you nerd!). That is why if you're single, you'd most probably want to stay at home on Valentine's Day. Unless, of course, you have lots of other single friends around to celebrate the love of friendship together. This practice of celebrating friendship on Valentine's Day, I think, is created to make the day less unbearable for the singles. But it also makes it worse for those who are single, and have no other single friends around to celebrate with! Like yours truly...

Having said that, to all the single and lonely out there, even if your loved ones are far away, you still have one person to love on Valentine's Day - yourself! (Note: I am not encouraging narcissism). So you know what that means? It means everyone can celebrate Valentine's Day!

So...Happy Valentine's Day!

Double Festival!

Chap Goh Meh ("15th Night" in Hokkien) is supposed to be as important as the first day of CNY. It is also supposed to be the Chinese's version of Valentine's Day. Why would people ignore such a meaningful day? (More importantly, why doesn't the government make this a public holiday?!)

Traditionally on Chap Goh Meh, unmarried ladies toss Mandarin oranges into the sea/river, hoping some eligible bachelors would pick it up somewhere downstream. Unfortunately, if I were to toss oranges (or anything else, for that matter) into the waters of Singapore, I would get authority chasing after me instead of eligible bachelors.

Anyway...have a nice meal tonight and spend it with your loved ones.

HAPPY CHAP GOH MEH 2009!

And to our Hindu friends...

HAPPY THAIPUSAM 2009!

Aku Ada Satu Menghancurkan Di Atas Anda

I saw this on Facebook:

Which bugger translated "crush" as "menghancurkan"? Or is that really what they call "crush" in Malay?

Guilty Pleasure

Photo taken by my dear friend Tiffany on 31 Jan 2009, at Secret Recipe, Jalan Bukit Bintang. No more ice-cream for me for the next two months!

End of CNY Holiday

This is it, I'm going back to Singapore later today. I don't feel like sleeping because I don't want the time to come for me to return to Singapore. I have this feeling every single time I come back to KL. It's the only part of the holiday that I am not looking forward to. The next time I come back for long holiday again will probably be sometime six months later. Horrible feeling, this is...

Now is a good time to cue this saying: Life is like a vacuum cleaner - it sucks!
